We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
New and existing patients can use their CDCP coverage at Kanaka Creek Family Dental. We bill Sun Life directly, so you don't pay the covered portion up front.
Before any treatment, we show you exactly what the CDCP will pay and what, if anything, you'll pay yourself. No surprises at the front desk.
Booking with CDCP in 3 steps
- Call or book online and let us know you're a CDCP member.
- Bring your Sun Life CDCP member card (or your member ID) and photo ID to your first visit.
- We confirm your coverage before we start. If something needs Sun Life's pre-approval or isn't covered, we tell you the cost first and you decide.
What you'll pay with CDCP
Two things decide your cost: your co-payment and the fee difference.
1. Co-payment. Set by the government based on your adjusted family net income:
| Adjusted family net income | CDCP pays | You pay |
|---|---|---|
| Under $70,000 | 100% of the CDCP fee | 0% |
| $70,000 – $79,999 | 60% | 40% |
| $80,000 – $89,999 | 40% | 60% |
2. Fee difference. The CDCP pays from its own fee schedule, which is usually lower than the BC Dental Fee Guide. We charge BC Fee Guide fees, never above them, and the difference between the two is billed to you. We'll show you that amount in writing before your appointment.
What the CDCP covers
Commonly covered: exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, root canals, gum treatment, extractions and complete dentures. Crowns and partial dentures need Sun Life pre-approval first.
Not covered: dental implants, bridges, veneers, teeth whitening and night guards. Orthodontics, including Invisalign, is not available under the CDCP yet.

Do you qualify?
You need to meet all four:
- No access to private dental insurance (through work, a spouse, a pension, or a plan you bought)
- You filed your tax return in Canada last year
- Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000
- You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Quick check: look at box 45 on your T4 (or box 015 on a T4A). A 1 means your work or pension plan reported no dental coverage. Apply at canada.ca.
CDCP questions we hear most
Do you accept CDCP for new patients?
Yes. Call or book online and tell us you're a CDCP member. We welcome new patients of all ages.
Do you bill Sun Life directly?
Yes. We send the claim to Sun Life for you, so you don't pay the covered portion up front.
Will I have to pay anything?
Possibly. If your adjusted family net income is $70,000 or more, you have a co-payment. And because the CDCP pays less than the BC Dental Fee Guide, there is usually a fee difference. We show you both amounts before treatment.
Does the CDCP cover dental implants or Invisalign?
No. Dental implants are excluded from the CDCP, and orthodontic coverage, including Invisalign, isn't available yet. We offer no-obligation consultations for both if you'd like to explore your options.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Your Sun Life CDCP member card or member ID, and a piece of photo ID.
Can my children use their CDCP coverage here?
Yes, if they are enrolled in the CDCP. We see kids of all ages, from first visits onward.
