Dentures in Maple Ridge

Dentures in Maple Ridge

Dentures replace missing teeth so you can eat, speak and smile normally again. Modern dentures are a long way from the loose, obviously false plates people picture — they're digitally designed, and they can be anchored to implants if you want them to stay put.

At Kanaka Creek Family Dental we make complete dentures, partial dentures, immediate dentures and implant-supported overdentures, and we handle the relines, repairs and adjustments that keep them fitting properly over the years.

We'll walk you through every option honestly — including the ones that cost us less — because the right answer depends on how many teeth you've lost, how much bone you have left, and what you actually want out of the result.

Covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan

Dentures are one of the bigger-ticket treatments the CDCP does cover. Complete dentures, repairs, relines and rebases are covered; partial, immediate and overdentures are covered with preauthorization.

We accept CDCP patients and bill Sun Life directly. See our guide to CDCP coverage in Maple Ridge.

Denture FAQs

  • How long do dentures take to get used to?

Most people need two to four weeks before speaking and eating feel natural, and it's normal to need a few adjustment visits in that window. Sore spots in the first days are expected and easily fixed — don't tough them out, come in and let us relieve the pressure point.

  • Do dentures need to be replaced?

The denture itself typically lasts five to ten years, but your jaw keeps changing shape underneath it. That's why relines matter — they refit the base to your current ridge. A denture that's become loose usually needs a reline, not a whole new denture.

  • Will dentures change how I look?

Yes, and usually for the better. Missing teeth let the lower face collapse inward over time. A well-made denture restores that support. We choose tooth shape, shade and position with your face in mind, and you approve the look at a try-in stage before anything is finalized.

  • Can I get dentures the same day my teeth are removed?

Yes — that's an immediate denture, made in advance and placed the day of your extractions so you're never without teeth. The trade-off is that your gums shrink as they heal, so an immediate denture needs relining once healing is complete.

  • Are implant-supported dentures worth it?

For lower dentures especially, many people find them transformative — a lower plate has no suction to hold it, so it's the one that tends to float. As few as two implants can anchor it. It costs more up front and isn't covered by the CDCP, so it comes down to how much the stability is worth to you.

  • What do dentures cost?

It depends on the type and whether extractions are needed first. We follow the BC Dental Fee Guide and don't charge above it, and you'll get the full written fee before we begin. If you're on the CDCP, dentures are covered — we'll confirm your coverage first.

Types of Dentures

Complete dentures
Replace all the teeth in an arch. Held by suction and the shape of your ridge. The standard option when no natural teeth remain.

Partial dentures
Fill in gaps when you still have healthy natural teeth, clasping onto them for support. They also stop the remaining teeth drifting into the space.

Immediate dentures
Made before your extractions and fitted the same day, so you don't go without teeth while you heal.

Implant-supported overdentures
A denture that clips onto dental implants instead of resting on the gums. Far more stable for eating, and it slows the bone loss that comes with wearing a conventional denture. See also All-on-4 implants.

Relines, rebases and repairs
Refitting an existing denture to a changed jaw, or fixing a crack or broken tooth. Usually much cheaper than replacing.

What to Expect

Step 1: Consultation
We examine your remaining teeth, gums and bone, take a digital scan and discuss which options genuinely suit your situation.

Step 2: Impressions and records
We capture the detail of your ridge and how your jaws meet, so the finished denture sits and bites correctly.

Step 3: Try-in
You see and approve the tooth shape, shade and position before the denture is finished. Changes are easy at this stage and hard afterwards.

Step 4: Fit and adjust
We place the finished denture and book follow-ups to relieve any sore spots. Expect a couple of short adjustment visits — that's normal, not a sign something went wrong.

If teeth need removing first, see extractions and sedation options.

Caring for Your Dentures

Clean them daily with a denture brush and non-abrasive cleaner — regular toothpaste scratches the acrylic and those scratches trap stain and bacteria.

Take them out overnight to let your gums recover, and keep them in water so they don't warp.

Keep seeing us even with no natural teeth — we check your gums, ridges and for signs of oral cancer.

Prefer Something Fixed?

If you'd rather not remove anything at night, implants can replace individual teeth or anchor a full arch permanently.
